Job summary

MORGAN COUNTY SCHOOL DISTRICT RE-3 Transportation Department is seeking a dedicated Bus Assistant to provide safe and efficient support to the school bus driver and students. The role ensures students are transported safely while allowing the driver to focus on driving tasks.

Responsibilities include assisting with loading, monitoring student behavior, operating the lift, and securing wheelchairs and belts. The position covers out-of-town trips with an 8-hour paid day and a 1-hour unpaid lunch.

Qualifications

• Safe operation and student supervision.
• Ability to monitor student behavior and manage transitions.
• Knowledge of wheelchair lifts and seat restraints.

Responsibilities

• Assist the driver in loading and unloading students.
• Monitor students during transport and maintain order.
• Know lift operation and secure wheelchair devices properly.
• Understand wheelchair restraints and seat belts and assist with securing them.
• Be aware of emergency procedures and radio operations.
• Either evacuate passengers in emergencies or assist the driver to do so.
