Job Description

Bus Aides, Bus & Van Drivers Substitutes

2025-2026 School Year (Full and Part-Time hours available)

Assist in providing daily safe transportation of students to and from programs within the town and to other out‑of‑district locations.

Qualifications

• Ability to relate well with the public
• Experience working with Special Needs children preferred
• Sign language skills preferred
• CPR and first aid training required
• Bus Driver Substitutes: CDL and medical exam required
• Van Drivers Substitutes: 7D license and medical exam required
• Bus Aides: opportunity to secure 7D license available
• Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent of Schools may deem appropriate and acceptable

Responsibilities

• Assist the bus/van operator in transporting a small number of handicapped children to and from school
• Ensure pupils are placed on the bus/van safely, are properly seated, and seat belts and/or harnesses are applied
• Serve as a comforting influence during occasional emotional or physical outbursts
• Aid students off/on the bus/van, assisting them into the school or to their homes
• Maintain order on the vehicle at all times

Reports To: Transportation Director

Salary: $18.00 per hour
