Job summary

City of Abilene is seeking a Solid Waste Worker to perform heavy manual labor related to residential and commercial waste collection. You will assist with refuse, brush, and bulky waste collection, and support safe operation of collection equipment in a fast-paced, outdoor environment.

Requirements include a high school diploma or GED, a valid Texas driver’s license, and training in Bloodborne Pathogens and HazCom within 60 days.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Experience in heavy manual work preferred.
• Must have a valid Texas driver’s license or ability to obtain one within 90 days.
• Bloodborne Pathogens and HazCom training within 60 days of employment.

Responsibilities

• Pick up and load heavy items and bulky waste.
• Operate loading, compacting, and dumping mechanisms on refuse vehicles.
• Guide truck movement in alleys and street locations.
• Cut limbs and brush obstructing vehicle access.
• Load debris into vehicles and return containers to original locations.
