Job summary

Common Market Co-op in Frederick, MD is seeking a Bulk Department team member to manage orders, stock levels, and shrink reduction. You will price products, coordinate with vendors, and ensure clean displays while maintaining accurate records.

Ideal candidates have at least one year in retail and familiarity with natural foods, plus basic computer skills (MS Office) and POS/receiving systems experience. Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and work varied shifts is required.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Places orders and distributes Bulk inventory.
• Maintains appropriate Bulk stock levels.

• Scans and disposes of shrink in Bulk Department.

• Uses movement reports to meet customer needs.
• Evaluates vendors and negotiates on price, quality, and delivery speed.
• Maintains records of purchases, costs, deliveries, and inventories.
• Ensures Bulk department is fronted and faced by 9 AM.
• Supports remerchandising plans to drive sales and labor efficiency.
• Communicates with staff and vendors regarding miss-picks or defective product.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

• Places orders and ensures Bulk inventory is properly distributed.
• Maintains appropriate levels of Bulk stock.
• Protects store assets by participating in periodic inventory, following established security practices/policies, and handling injuries/incidents to minimize store liability.
• Scans and properly disposes of shrink in the Bulk Department.
• Follows outlined procedures, including proper rotation and overstocking practices.
• Assists in ensuring appropriate signage is present throughout Bulk.
• Utilizes resources to price products according to established margins.
• Utilizes internal movement reports to ensure offerings meet customer needs.
• Follows external market trends to anticipate customer needs.
• Evaluates vendors and negotiates based on price, quality, and delivery speed.
• Evaluates and monitors contracts to ensure vendors comply with the agreed terms.
• Maintains accurate and consistent records of items bought, costs, deliveries, product performance, and inventories.
• Meets or exceeds efficiency standards set and reviewed by management.
• Ensures department is fronted and faced by 9 AM.
• Helps to develop and execute remerchandising plans that aim to drive sales and increase labor efficiency.
• Communicates with staff and vendors regarding miss-picks or defective product; secures credits.
• Maintains a high level of customer service to internal and external customers.
• Supports co-op core values and aligns with the Co-op Code of Conduct.
• Builds and maintains customer satisfaction with the products and services offered by the co-op.
• Others duties as assigned.

Requirements

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES

• High School Diploma or equivalent experience.
• A minimum of one (1) year’s experience in a retail environment.
• A minimum of one (1) year’s experience and familiarity with natural foods.
• Supports the co-op’s core values and aligns with the Co-op Code of Conduct.
• Adapts readily based on evolving co-op needs or in response to feedback.
• Maintains composure in highly stressful or adverse situations.
• Computer proficiency and familiarity with MS Office Suite.
• POS and receiving systems experience strongly preferred. Catapult experience a strong plus.

ENVIRONMENTAL & PHYSICAL DEMANDS

• Flexibility to work any shift, including mornings, middays, evenings, weekends.
• Ability to work in varying temperatures (approximately 20°F – 90°F).
• Ability to stand or sit for long periods at a time.
• Ability to bend, stoop, reach, kneel, twist, and climb.
• Ability to lift 50 pounds unassisted.
• Reliable access to transportation.
