Job summary

The Greater Philadelphia YMCA is seeking a security/monitoring role to ensure a safe, welcoming environment for members and staff. You will observe, respond to incidents, deescalate conflicts, and monitor cameras across our Philadelphia facility.

Ideal candidates have a high school diploma; prior security experience is a plus. This on-site position offers opportunities to contribute to the community and access to YMCA membership benefits.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Previous experience is a plus but not required.
• Excellent observational skills and attention to detail.
• Ability to remain calm in high-pressure situations.
• Ability to learn the layout of the property and buildings.
• Ability to monitor the property and access areas quickly.
• Ability to deescalate inappropriate or threatening situations.
• Prolonged periods sitting or standing.
• Must be able to lift 50 pounds at a time.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.

Responsibilities

• Create a safe and welcoming environment for members and team members of GPY.
• Monitor an assigned area; report suspicious activities to branch leadership and maintain a log of this activity.
• Deescalate inappropriate or threatening situations.
• Monitor surveillance cameras throughout the facility.
• Conduct building walkthroughs with attention to detail to ensure a safe environment inside and outside the branch.
• Contact law enforcement or fire department in case of an emergency.
• At the end of operating hours, check to ensure the property is secure, update activity log, and ensure that key information is passed along to branch leadership.
• Address reports of suspicious activity on the property.
• Prepare for threats and emergencies with a plan of action.
• Escort unwelcome parties off the premises.
• Work collaboratively with GPY staff and members to support a positive member experience.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.
