Job summary

HDR, Inc. is seeking a Building Structural Engineering Intern in Minnesota to work on real-world projects across buildings, existing structures, foundations, and light industrial facilities.

You will perform load calculations, analysis, design, and drawings under the guidance of engineers, gaining practical experience in HDR's collaborative, employee-owned culture. Current enrollment in an undergraduate or graduate Engineering program is required; preferred candidates have familiarity with

Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate Engineering program.
  • Attention to detail and strong problem-solving/communication skills.
  • Basic Microsoft Office skills are required.

Responsibilities

  • Gain real-world experience on projects including buildings, existing structures, water-bearing structures, foundations, light industrial, and other facilities.
  • Load calculations, analysis, design, spreadsheet development, drawing production, fabrication/shop drawing review, site observations and other duties as needed.
  • Connect with recent graduates and mentors through programs and events.
  • Apply standard engineering techniques and procedures under supervision.
  • Perform assignments under the direct supervision of an engineer or project manager.

In the role of Building Structural Engineering Intern, we'll count on you to:

  • Gain real-world experience on exciting projects including buildings, existing structures, water-bearing structures, foundations, light industrial, and other types of facilities
  • Tasks include load calculations, analysis, design, spreadsheet development, drawing production, fabrication/shop drawing review, site observations, and other duties as needed
  • Connect with recent college graduates and our company leaders through mentoring and young professionals programs
  • Apply standard engineering techniques and procedures
  • Perform assignments under the direct supervision of an engineer or project manager
Preferred Qualifications
  • Prefer 2 years completed toward degree with 3.0+ GPA
  • Demonstrated knowledge of software packages related to field of study/industry including Microsoft Excel, Revit, RISA, RAM, and STAAD
  • Preference given to local candidates
  • Structural steel and/or concrete design coursework completed
  • Prefer current enrollment in civil, structural, or architectural engineering program
  • Enthusiasm to learn and develop within the field of structural engineering
  • Possess strong problem-solving and communication skills
