This employee will be responsible for participating in system-wide planning for youth services, organizing, implementing, and evaluating library services for young people from birth through high school at the branch level. The role includes assisting with branch management and creating partnerships with local agencies and community groups serving youth.
Supervision is provided by the Branch Manager, with system-wide participation coordinated by the Youth Services Coordinator. Collection development assistance is provided by the Youth Services Collections Librarian.
Online application is required. Minimum qualifications include a Master of Library Science degree from an ALA-accredited college or university, plus two years of professional library experience, including at least one year serving youth. A librarian’s certificate issued by the Virginia State Board may substitute for the degree.
Preferred qualifications include experience in youth library services, youth literature, serving persons with limited English skills, online database and internet resources, program provision, or coordinating others’ work.
