Job summary

Qualifications

Job Description

The Building Services Foreman serves as an on‑duty supervisor within the Building Services unit and is responsible for supervising up to 30 employees. This role ensures that adequate supplies are in inventory, equipment is in working order, and building cleanliness meets APPA standards. The foreman schedules employee coverage and project work, submits daily reports of time spent by each employee in each area, communicates with customers, and initiates tiny trash and total cleaning sustainability goals. The foreman also files FML reports, injury reports, vehicle accident reports, and manages annual training.

Responsibilities
  • Lead work teams
  • Conduct daily building inspections to assess cleanliness
  • Make job assignments and assign work projects to employees
  • Evaluate employee performance
  • Train new employees and retrain existing employees as needed
  • Provide formal training classes when required
  • Report and correct unsafe working conditions according to OSHA and University standards
  • Serve as point of contact for customers on frequencies, set‑ups, charges, recycling, tiny trash, and total cleaning sustainability
  • Perform general office work including daily work reports, time entry, and record keeping
  • Fill out FML reports, injury reports, and vehicle accident reports
  • Create schedules to ensure personnel coverage requirements are met and schedule shift meetings
  • Perform daily public relations with UT employees, students, and visitors
Required Qualifications
  • Education: High school diploma or GED
  • Experience: Five years of custodial experience, including one year of supervisory experience
  • Knowledge, Skills, Abilities: Ability to use Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.), climb ladders, lift 60 lbs. assisted, 40 lbs. unassisted, read and follow verbal and written instructions, operate power equipment such as scrubbers, buffers, extractors, accurately evaluate building cleanliness, manage efficient personnel use, and evaluate employee performance, direct and lead employees
  • Other Conditions: Valid driver’s license
  • Successful completion of the Cleaning Certification Program within 1 year of hire date
  • Willingness to participate in the FS Facilitating Successful Leaders program, a 6‑month probationary period with defined expectations and supervisory feedback to develop and support leaders in Facilities Services
  • Legal authorization to work in the United States on a full‑time basis without current or future sponsorship for employment‑based visa status
Preferred Qualifications
  • Education: Up to a Bachelor’s degree in a related field, other relevant licenses or certifications
  • Experience: Five years of supervisory experience in a custodial role
