Overview

The University of St. Thomas has openings for full-time, benefits-eligible Building Service Workers (custodial, janitor). As part of the Facilities Management team, Building Services Workers provide an exceptional experience for students, staff, and visitors through cleaning services and upkeep across the St. Paul and Minneapolis campuses.

The University offers a comprehensive benefits package, including:

  • Medical, dental, and vision coverage (effective the first day of the month following hire)
  • 3.5 weeks paid leave, accruing immediately
  • 15 university holidays
  • Up to 100% tuition remission for employees, spouses, and dependents, subject to eligibility
  • Employer retirement contribution of 9.4% of salary upon eligibility
  • Employer-paid disability, life, and AD&D benefits

The shift will be determined based on department needs but generally follows a 5-on, 2-off schedule, including at least one weekend day:

  • 1st Shift: 5:30 AM - 2:00 PM
  • 2nd Shift: 1:45 PM - 10:15 PM
  • 3rd Shift: 10:00 PM - 6:30 AM

Hourly pay rate: $21.46, with potential shift differentials of $0.70/hour for the second shift and $0.90/hour for the third shift. Differential applies only to hours worked, not on paid leave or holidays.

Responsibilities include:

  • Routine cleaning of offices, athletic facilities, food service areas, classrooms, and restrooms, following safety and quality standards
  • Vacuuming, dusting, disinfecting surfaces, trash collection, and recycling
  • Periodic duties such as carpet and hard floor work, bulb replacement, event setup, and snow removal
  • Occasional room setup and teardown for events
  • Heavy lifting of furniture and custodial equipment as needed

Qualifications:

  • Experience with custodial and janitorial procedures
  • Ability to read, understand, and follow instructions; communicate effectively for event setup and safety
  • Successful completion of a criminal background check and pre-employment physical

Preferred qualifications:

  • Valid Driver's License

This position may be considered emergency essential, requiring reporting during campus closures due to emergencies or weather.

This full-time, benefits-eligible role is covered by a collective bargaining agreement. New hires undergo a 90-day probation and must join the union afterward.
