Building Service Worker
Position Overview: Part‑time custodial position performing a wide variety of duties to maintain clean, orderly, and safe campus environments. Reports to the Custodial Superintendent and operates within Buildings and Grounds (Level1A).
Responsibilities
- Clean and sanitize classrooms, offices, washrooms, and other areas according to required methods.
- Assist in moving and setting up equipment and furniture for events and general campus needs.
- Clear sidewalks, shovel snow, and perform related seasonal custodial care around campus exteriors.
- Participate in special projects such as carpet/fabric care, VCT care, LVT care, and window care under supervision.
- Operate and maintain custodial equipment safely, adhering to JJC and OSHA standards.
- Report observed damage or safety hazards to the Lead Custodian.
- Attend training classes as required for employees.
- Support departmental and college goals and collaborate with colleagues.
- Perform additional related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED equivalent.
- Willingness to learn procedures and follow verbal and written instructions.
- Ability to pass a physical examination.
- Courteous, dependable, and capable of working with a diverse population.
- Physical ability to lift, carry, stack, and maneuver up to 50lb.
- Able to use an open lift to reach heights of approximately 25 feet.
- Within six months of hire, obtain and maintain a valid driver’s license and ability to operate a college motor vehicle.

Preferred Qualifications
- Previous custodial experience.
- Proficiency in English and Spanish (verbal and written).
- Demonstrated multicultural competence.
Physical Demands & Working Conditions
- Operation of scrubbers, buffers, burnishers, vacuums, personnel lifts, and truck with power lift gate.
- Indoor and outdoor work exposed to chemicals, dust, noise, and inclement weather.
- Frequent exposure to moderate to loud noise levels.
- Willingness to use open lifts to heights of up to 30 feet.
Schedule
The position requires availability for any of the three shifts: Monday7p.m.–1:30a.m.; Tuesday7p.m.–1:30a.m.; Wednesday8p.m.–1:30a.m.; Thursday8p.m.–1:30a.m.; Friday7p.m.–1:30a.m. Shift changes are communicated with two‑weeks’ notice. A 90‑day probationary period applies.
