The Fort Dodge Public Library is seeking a reliable and detail-oriented Building Service Worker to help maintain a clean, safe, and inviting environment for all patrons and staff. Perform daily cleaning tasks including sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, waxing, buffing, and vacuuming floors and carpets.
Clean windows, walls, restrooms, stairwells, furniture, and fixtures; empty trash and recycling bins.
Maintain building cleanliness and safety by securing entrances and responding to building emergencies.
Conduct routine maintenance including minor plumbing, HVAC, electrical, and temperature monitoring.
Order, organize, and inventory cleaning supplies and maintenance equipment.
Set up rooms for meetings and events, assist with deliveries, and move supplies as needed.
Ensure outdoor areas are clean; assist with snow and litter removal.
Operate and maintain custodial tools and equipment safely and efficiently.
Report unauthorized access or suspicious activity when securing the building.
High school diploma or GED.
Minimum of 6 months of custodial experience, or a comparable combination of experience and training.
Valid Iowa Driver’s License and reliable transportation with proof of insurance.
Must pass a background check, drug screen, and physical exam.
Ability to communicate effectively in English both verbally and in writing.
Ability to lift and move objects up to 75 lbs; frequent walking, climbing, bending, and standing.
Must be able to perform physical tasks in indoor and outdoor conditions, including extreme weather.
Comfortable working in environments with noise, dust, odors, and other hazards.
Vision and hearing sufficient for safe equipment operation and communication.
Must be available for a flexible schedule including evenings, weekends, and on-call duties.
