Job summary

The City of Freeport is seeking a Building Plans Examiner to support its Development & Community Services department. The role focuses on plan review, permitting coordination, and ensuring compliance with adopted building codes and city ordinances.

Responsibilities include coordinating submittals, conducting residential and limited commercial plan reviews, and interacting with contractors, developers, and residents to resolve permitting issues.

Qualifications

• Education: High school diploma or GED required.
• Licenses: Valid Texas Driver's License; ability to obtain ICC certification within timeframe.
• Preferred: Associate degree or higher in Construction-related field; ICC certifications listed.
• Experience: Municipal building permitting, plan review, or inspections preferred.

Responsibilities

• Review residential and commercial construction documents for code compliance.
• Coordinate permit applications through city review process.
• Identify code deficiencies and issue plan-review comments.
• Coordinate with Building Official for code requirements and reviews.
• Maintain permitting records and assist public with procedures.
• Provide professional customer service and respond to inquiries.
