Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required; additional education is a plus.
• Four years’ experience in construction trades or as an inspector/plans examiner for a governmental agency or under the direction of a building official, or equivalent education/experience.
• Florida driver’s license required.
• Knowledge of building and zoning codes and related laws and ordinances.
• Ability to read, analyze, and interpret documents including plans, specifications, blueprints, codes, and contracts.
• Ability to organize work, set priorities, meet deadlines, and work with minimal direction.

Responsibilities

• Complete building, plumbing, electrical, and mechanical reviews for residential and commercial projects.
• Identify corrections to plans to meet code requirements.
• Communicate with staff on zoning and land development.
• Provide technical leadership and guidance to staff and customers.
• Approve permits for residential and commercial projects for compliance with codes.
• Review plans submitted by the public, architects, engineers, and contractors.
• Resolve simple code interpretation disputes and assist higher-level staff as needed.
• Respond to inquiries and complaints related to codes and plan reviews.
• Calibrate and confirm building permit and impact fees.
• Support front-counter inquiries about building codes.
