Job summary

The City of Roseville is seeking a Building Plans Examiner to join our Development Services team. This regular full-time position involves reviewing residential and commercial construction documents for code compliance, collaborating with architects, engineers and contractors, and guiding applicants through the permitting process.

Qualifications

• One year of increasingly responsible building plan examination, architectural design, drafting, and/or inspection experience.
• Completion of thirty units from an accredited college or university with major course work in engineering, architecture or a related field. (ICC certificate can substitute for units.)
• Possession of a valid I.C.C certificate as a Building Plans Examiner is required within one year of appointment.
• Two years of increasingly responsible building plan examination experience for Building Plans Examiner II, including at least one year as an I.C.C. certified Building Plans Examiner.
• Additional one year of experience as ICC-certified examiner can substitute for the thirty units requirement.
• Possession of a valid I.C.C. certificate as a Building Plans Examiner by the date of appointment.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with architects, engineers, contractors, developers, property owners, and City staff to resolve code and design issues and identify code-compliant solutions.
• Provide responsive, solution-oriented customer service by clearly communicating code requirements and helping applicants understand the path to code compliance.
• Review residential and commercial construction documents for compliance with applicable building codes and City requirements.
