Under supervision (Examiner I) of the Building Official, performs technical plans exam work (Examiner I) in evaluating, interpreting, investigating, and enforcing construction and development codes and related laws and ordinances to ensure public health, safety, and welfare. Work involves extensive communication across the City’s departments and with homeowners and related professionals.
The Plans Examiner I is the entry-level classification of the job series. The Examiner I is distinguished from the Examiner II by performing work under supervision of department staff. The work of the Examiner I is more routine and requires limited knowledge, focusing exclusively on residential construction. The Plans Examiner I enforcement responsibility is restricted to residential construction.
