Job summary

Bureau Veritas is seeking a Plans Examiner to ensure safety, compliance and quality of construction plans. You will review plans against building codes, evaluate structural, fire safety and energy aspects, and coordinate with architects and contractors.

The role requires in-depth knowledge of codes, strong analytical skills, and ability to travel to inspection sites; CA licensure is preferred and ICC certification is required.

Qualifications

• Three years of increasingly responsible experience in structural design and/or plan checking or construction project management.
• Bachelor's degree from an accredited college/university in structural/civil engineering, architecture or closely related field.
• Registration as a professional engineer or licensed architect in CA; FE exam or EIT considered.
• Residential and Building Plans Examiner certification from ICC required.
• Strong knowledge of building codes, zoning laws, regulatory requirements.

Responsibilities

• Review construction plans, specifications, and calculations for code compliance.
• Evaluate structural integrity, fire/life safety, accessibility, and energy efficiency.
• Assess mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems for function and compliance.
• Communicate with architects, engineers, contractors, and clients on deficiencies.
• Prepare reports with findings, violations, and corrections.
