Job summary

Affiliated Engineers, Inc. is seeking a Building Performance Consultant I in our Gainesville office. You will help clients achieve energy-efficient building solutions by applying CFD, daylighting, and energy modeling to inform design decisions.

You will educate clients and engineers on innovative building technologies, contribute to project delivery across disciplines, and collaborate with a team focused on high-performance outcomes.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical, electrical, or architectural engineering from an accredited program or commensurate degree and experience with building systems.
  • General understanding of building systems across disciplines and fundamental knowledge in HVAC, plumbing/piping, electrical, lighting, instrumentation and controls, or building envelope systems.
  • Fundamental understanding of high-performance design including renewable and alternative energy strategies, daylighting, embodied energy, IEQ, material composition and life cycle assessment.
  • Ability to use at least one building system simulation tool (EnergyPlus, IES-VE, TRNSYS, DOE-2/eQuest, TRACE, CFD, or Radiance) for consulting and analysis.
  • Experience in computer operation for building system analysis and engineering calculation programs.
  • Ability to learn CAD/BIM software for building performance analysis and consulting.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate building and system design strategies using building performance, CFD, and daylight simulation tools.
  • Educate clients, architects and engineers on new technologies and innovative solutions.
  • Support the building performance practice with project work and client communications.
  • Collaborate with team members to deliver energy-efficient building solutions and measurable outcomes.

As a Building Performance Consultant I in our Gainesville office, you will help us empower our clients to achieve energy-efficient building solutions, save global environments, and create a better, greener future for all.

Why We Need You:

In this role, you will work with ourbuilding performancepractice team to help evaluate building and system design strategies. The emphasis will be on using building, CFD, and daylight simulation tools to help inform design, as well as document performance compared to accepted standards.The Building Performance Consultant I will also work to educate clients, architects and engineers on new technologies and innovative solutions.

Expertise of our most successful Building Performance Consultant I:
  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical, electrical, or architectural engineering (or another engineering discipline) from an accredited program; or commensurate degree and experience with building systems.
  • General understanding of building systems across disciplines and fundamental knowledge in at least one discipline such as HVAC, plumbing/piping, electrical, lighting, instrumentation and controls, or building envelope systems.
  • Fundamental understanding of major tenets of high-performance design including renewable and alternative energy strategies, daylighting, embodied energy, indoor environmental quality, material composition, water efficiency, life cycle assessment, and built environment planning.
  • Ability to use at least one building system simulation tool, including EnergyPlus, IES-VE, TRNSYS, DOE-2 (eQuest), TRACE, CFD, or Radiance, for consulting and analysis.
  • Experience in computer operation for building system analysis and engineering calculation programs.
  • Ability to learn CAD/BIM software as necessary for building performance analysis and consulting.
Effective skills to help you flourish:
  • Industry certification applicable to building performance including but not limited to AEE CEM, ASHRAE HPDP, ASHRAE BEMP, ASHRAE BEAP, Green Globes Professional, or LEED AP.
  • Passed the Fundamentals of Engineering exam (FE).
  • Knowledge of or ability to learn application programming language (C++, Ruby, Python, Visual Basic, etc.)
  • Ability to access BIM Models.
  • Strong spoken and written communications skills.
  • Excellent organization and time management skills.
  • Quick technical comprehension and motivation focused on client outcomes.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks.
  • Effective working individually and within team environments.
