Job summary

Affiliated Engineers, Inc. in Chapel Hill, NC is seeking a Mechanical Engineer I to help design energy-efficient building solutions and support clients across healthcare, science, and technology sectors.

You will gain hands-on experience through mentoring, field surveys, and coordination with engineers and designers. Ideal candidates hold an ABET-accredited degree with GPA 2.5+, internship experience in MEP consulting, and may have EIT.

Qualifications

• BSME/BSAE from ABET accredited school in Mechanical or Architectural Engineering.
• Minimum GPA of 2.5.
• Non-academic internship.
• Leadership involvement in extracurricular activities/student organizations preferred.
• EIT certification (Passed the FE exam) a plus.
• Internship experience in the MEP consulting engineering field preferred.

Responsibilities

• Perform load calculations, determining system sizing and layouts.
• Calculate equipment sizes and select equipment.
• Complete field surveys, and review equipment shop drawings.
• Lead mechanical project teams, participate in project meetings with clients and other consultants.
• Support construction-phase work.

Here’s Why We Need You

Within our team framework, you will initially work with and be mentored by experienced engineers and will yourself help to mentor designers. Your initial assignments will include performing load calculations, determining system sizing and layouts, calculating equipment sizes, selecting equipment, completing field surveys, and reviewing equipment shop drawings. As you gain project experience, you will take on a greater role in leading mechanical project teams, writing specifications, participating in project meetings with clients and other consultants, and supporting construction-phase work.
