Job summary

The City of Cedar Hill in North Texas is seeking a qualified professional to preserve safe building conditions by inspecting residential and commercial construction, enforcing codes, reviewing plans, and issuing permits.

Position may be filled as Senior Building Inspector or Assistant Building Official, with responsibilities including development review, code development/adoption, board support, and directing staff as needed.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required with six months to one year of advanced study or training past the high equivalency, in a related vocational, administrative, or technical field related to this position.
• At least five years of related experience required.
• Valid TX Driver's License required, meeting City driving standards.
• Combination Inspection Residential Inspector License.
• Texas State Plumbing Inspector's License.
• For Assistant Building Official: ICC Certified Building Official required, or the ability to obtain within one year of employment.

Responsibilities

• Conduct inspections to ensure safe building conditions.
• Enforce applicable building codes, regulations, and ordinances.
• Review plans and specifications, prepare reports, and issue permits.
• Provide guidance and assistance to contractors, builders, residents, and City staff.
• Resolve code-related concerns and support development review processes.
• Contribute to maintaining compliance with local and national standards.
• Assist in development review activities, code development and adoption efforts, board support, and staff direction where applicable.

Education

Combination Inspection Residential Inspector License

Texas State Plumbing Inspector's License

ICC Certified Building Official (within one year)
