Job summary

City of Big Spring seeks an experienced Building Official/Code Enforcement Supervisor to lead inspections and enforcement of health, safety, and nuisance codes across residential and commercial construction. The role oversees the City Facilities Department and coordinates with boards and permitting offices to ensure compliance and orderly development.

The position requires a Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent experience, 3–5 years in building inspection with supervisory

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in construction/inspection/administration.
• Minimum 3–5 years in building inspection, code administration, construction, or plan review; supervisory experience preferred.
• Requires valid Texas driver’s license.

Responsibilities

• Review plans for residential and commercial construction to ensure compliance with building, safety, and accessibility codes.
• Prepare and issue permits for residential construction.
• Inspect construction for safety and code compliance; supervise inspectors and permit staff.
• Oversee City Facilities maintenance and operations.
• Organize board meetings (Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing, Zoning).
• Interpret and explain codes to builders, contractors, and homeowners.
