Details:

• Min Salary: $40,352
• Mid Salary: $47,486
• Report To: Facility Foreman
• Wage/Hour Status: Nonexempt
• Pay Grade: Aux 7

Primary Purpose

The High School Building Mechanic maintains the physical facility to ensure operational excellence, supporting full educational use of the facility. All employees are expected to act with integrity, support organizational goals, communicate respectfully, and champion student needs.

Qualifications

Required:

• Valid Texas driver's license

Preferred:

• Five+ years of related experience

Skills and Knowledge

• Perform preventative maintenance and minor repairs on physical facility systems
• Understand safety hazards and precautions
• Follow written and oral instructions
• Maintain good interpersonal relationships

Major Responsibilities

Responsibilities include:

• Perform preventative maintenance and minor repairs on mechanical systems
• Communicate effectively with team members and staff
• Conduct scheduled checks and services on building systems
• Perform minor plumbing, electrical, carpentry, HVAC repairs, and assist technicians
• Monitor and change HVAC filters bi-monthly, recording all changes
• Check and maintain roof drains, gutters, downspouts weekly
• Ensure proper operation of A/C and freezer systems
• Clean condenser coils bi-annually and annually as needed
• Respond to emergency call-outs 24/7
• Work night shifts or varying schedules as required
• Follow all safety regulations
• Perform other maintenance tasks as assigned, including parking lot repairs, moving furniture, and responding to emergencies

Equipment Used

• Hand cart, hand dollies, small tools, pressure washer, spray bottles, safety goggles

Essential Functions

• Ability to perform physical tasks including bending, twisting, reaching, pushing, pulling, standing, kneeling, climbing, and walking
• Work with chemicals safely
• Lift up to 50 pounds and push/pull up to 150 pounds
• Climb ladders up to 14 feet
• Use hand tools effectively

Work Environment & PPE

• Use of chemicals, exposure to noise, outdoor work, indoor work with air conditioning
• Wear PPE such as gloves, goggles, and back support belts as needed

Training Requirements

• Orientation on safety and hazardous communication
• Asbestos awareness within 90 days
• Hands-on training and ongoing staff development

Conditions

Work in a fast-paced environment, with potential prolonged sitting, reaching, and repetitive motions. Overtime may be required.
