Job summary

The National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI) on the NIH Bethesda campus seeks a Building Manager for Building 50. You will lead holistic building management for tenant spaces, coordinate repairs and improvements, and partner with scientists, facilities teams, and external contractors to ensure safe, efficient operations.

Responsibilities include prioritizing tenant improvements, documenting deficiencies, managing essential services like gas and autoclaves, and collaborating with the ORF

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or higher.
• 3-5 years’ experience in architecture, engineering, construction, project management or facilities management.
• Experience managing biomedical research facilities.
• Understanding of building systems and laboratory operations.
• Excellent communication skills; written, verbal and visual.
• Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple interdependent tasks.

Responsibilities

• Maintain overall condition, usability, and appearance of Building 50.
• Communicate ongoing building repair and improvement needs.
• Manage bulk gas tank operations and management.
• Prioritize tenant improvement projects from tenant input and maintenance needs.
• Support monthly facilities coordination meetings and track project priorities.
• Collaborate with ORF to identify and advance candidate projects.
• Coordinate backup systems and services across ICs (e.g., autoclaves, cold rooms).
• Assist with project management for repairs (radiators, cold rooms, etc.).
• Manage occupant priorities and resolution of maintenance tickets.
• Coordinate temporary mitigations with occupants and ORF ops/management.
• Oversee occupant committee for input on improvements.
• Collaborate with NIH Safety for building safety.
• Maintain Building 50 documentation linking spaces to lab owners.
