Position Overview

The Department of Facilities & Administrative Services is a sizable operational service organization that provides a broad array of services to the campus community through the following offices: Access Control Services, Automotive Services, Building Services, Energy & Central Utilities, Facilities Operations, Grounds & Landscape Maintenance Services, Mailing & Receiving Services, Occupational Safety and Environmental Services and Risk Management Services. Under the direction of the Supervisor, Building Maintenance Workers Movers perform varied, routine, and moderately physically strenuous tasks involved in campus-wide department moves and special events setups. Performs duties associated with loading and unloading furniture, boxes, and other items, assembling and disassembling furniture. Routinely interacts with campus constituents within the campus community.

Responsibilities
  • Conducts department moves across various departments within the campus, including but not limited to loading and unloading the furniture and related materials on and off trucks, ensuring appropriate padding and protection are used to prevent damage; Relocate/moving desks, chairs, tables, bookcases, artwork, refrigerators, and other related office equipment and furniture; Arrange and set up the furniture and associated items for classrooms, offices, student rooms, and conference rooms as instructed; Ensures proper care in the use and maintenance of equipment and supplies; May assist in various maintenance activities as required; Promotes continuous improvement of workplace safety and environmental practices. Assembles and disassembles furniture as needed.
  • Conducts event setups across various departments/divisions within the campus, including but not limited to the setup of chairs, tables, equipment, boxes, furniture, table tops, etc.; Conducts event breakdowns across various departments/divisions within the campus, including but limited to breakdown of chairs, tables, equipment, boxes, furniture, table tops, etc. Ability to lift more than sixty pounds; Removal of trash and e-waste.
  • Responsible for successfully cleaning all heavy trash and e-waste following events on campus in a timely and effective manner.
  • Other duties as assigned. Assist in the residential hall cleaning during the summer less busy period. Assist in snow removal as part of the Building Service snow team.
Qualifications
Required
  • One (1) year of experience in cleaning and maintaining furniture, fixtures, offices, buildings, or related. Appointees will be required to possess a driver's license valid in New Jersey only if the operation of a vehicle, rather than employee mobility, is necessary to perform essential duties of the position.
  • Ability to handle and control heavy cleaning equipment and to lift and move moderately heavy objects.
  • Knowledge of problems, procedures, and methods used to analyze and determine the move work and materials needed.
  • Ability to understand, remember, and carry out oral and written directions and to learn quickly from oral and written explanations and demonstrations.
  • Ability to keep necessary records.
Preferred
  • Knowledge of procedures and methods adequate in large-scale cleaning and maintenance work.
