Job Description

The Salvation Army, an internationally recognized non-profit, faith-based organization, has a job opening for a part-time Building Maintenance Worker / Custodian to serve the Central VA Area Command locations in Richmond, VA.

Position Summary:

Under the general supervision of the site Program Manager, the Maintenance Worker/Custodian is responsible for daily cleaning and maintenance of the building and grounds to ensure the property remains neat and clean. Performs routine repairs and maintenance of buildings, equipment, and vehicles; handles minor plumbing and carpentry repairs; and maintains grounds to beautify the landscape.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Knowledge of general building and grounds maintenance practices and procedures.
• Ability to learn through on-the-job training, follow instructions, and perform routine repairs.
• Effective use and maintenance of maintenance and cleaning tools and equipment, safely.
• Ability to perform heavy lifting and strenuous work involving carrying heavy objects.
• Ability to walk, stoop, stand, and climb as needed.

Education and Experience:

High school diploma or G.E.D.

Licenses and Certifications:

Valid state driver's license.

Working Conditions:

Driving and outdoor work required, with exposure to weather changes (rain, cold, snow, heat) and physical discomforts like noise, dust, and dirt.
