This position requires certification as an MA in NC. Provides high-quality care to patients with allergies by performing allergy testing, administering allergy injections, symptom management, and more. Supports efficient department operations by managing inventory of medication and supplies, maintaining medical records, and assisting others as needed or directed.
Essential Functions:
- Identifies patient allergies through testing according to practice protocols and physician's preferred method; conducts breathing studies; documents results in medical records.
- Supports allergy treatment plans by preparing allergy serums, mixing vials, administering therapies as ordered; documents reactions; calls prescriptions to pharmacies; educates patients on symptom management and treatment.
- Maintains inventory levels of antigens, serums, supplies, and forms; performs regular inventory checks; restocks shelves and orders supplies as needed.
- Minimizes risk of adverse reactions by confirming patient identities, safely disposing of expired medications, paying attention to details during medication preparation, and ensuring timely administration.
- Reduces infection and cross-contamination risks by following sterile procedures, safety standards, and using protective equipment.
- Prepares patients for testing and injections by obtaining medical history, recording vital signs, and putting patients at ease.
- Ensures accuracy and completeness of medical records; supports billing by selecting appropriate CPT and ICD-9 codes; verifies documentation quality.
- Supports continuity of care by taking and returning calls from allergy patients, documenting conversations, consulting with physicians, and conveying care plans; recognizes and responds to emergencies within scope.
- Supports office efficiency by maintaining clean exam rooms, adhering to schedules, and assisting staff as needed.
- Maintains licensure and certification through CME, training, professional memberships, and participation in relevant activities and education.
