Performs routine semi-skilled work in assisting in the repair and maintenance of City buildings and equipment; does related work as required.
Work is performed under the immediate supervision of a skilled maintenance worker.
Some knowledge of the materials, equipment, tools, and techniques of one of the standard building or mechanical trades; ability to acquire knowledge within a reasonable time period of the methods and techniques of a standard trade; ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions; ability to acquire skill in the use of tools and equipment of a standard trade.
Any combination of education and experience equivalent to completion of the eleventh grade and some experience with the use of common hand tools and equipment.
Must be able to physically perform the basic life operational functions of climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, and hearing. Must be able to stand for most of the work day. Must be able to perform medium work exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally; and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently; and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
Possession of a valid appropriate driver’s license issued by the State of North Carolina.
