We are seeking a skilled and dependable Maintenance Technician to join our Facilities Management team. This position plays a vital role in ensuring the safety, functionality, and appearance of campus buildings and infrastructure. The ideal candidate will have experience in general maintenance and repair across various trades and will contribute to a safe, comfortable, and operational learning environment for students, faculty, and staff.

Job Description

We are seeking a skilled and dependable Maintenance Technician to join our Facilities Management team. This position plays a vital role in ensuring the safety, functionality, and appearance of campus buildings and infrastructure. The ideal candidate will have experience in general maintenance and repair across various trades and will contribute to a safe, comfortable, and operational learning environment for students, faculty, and staff.

Duties And Responsibilities

  • Perform scheduled maintenance and inspections of academic, administrative, and residential buildings.
  • Maintain and repair campus systems including HVAC, lighting, plumbing, electrical, and general structural elements.
  • Respond to service requests and work orders submitted by university departments.
  • Diagnose and repair minor problems related to mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems.
  • Repair or replace defective components using various hand tools and power tools such as hammers, hoists, saws, drills, wrenches, or specialty equipment for precision measuring, electrical or electronic testing devices.
  • Make recommendations for long-term maintenance
  • Assist with event setup, relocation of furniture or equipment, and emergency response needs.
  • Provide support during weather-related or emergency situations, including snow removal and storm preparation.
  • Communicate effectively with supervisors, contractors, and university personnel to coordinate work and ensure minimal disruption.
  • Follow all campus safety protocols and local building codes.
  • Ensure safe use of tools, equipment, and personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Report potential hazards or deficiencies promptly.
  • Occasional evenings, weekends, or on-call work may be required based on campus needs.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required, trade or technical school preferred.
  • Valid driver’s license: background check required may be requested.
  • 2+ years of experience in building maintenance, facilities support, or a related field.
  • Working knowledge of HVAC, electrical, plumbing, carpentry, and general building systems.
  • Familiarity with building codes, OSHA safety standards, and Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS) platforms.
  • Strong interpersonal and organizational skills; ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Must be able to lift 75 lbs. and carry 50 lbs.
  • The ability to move all parts of the body at various angles while sitting, standing, or laying down.
  • The ability to climb ladders and perform physical labor in various conditions.
  • The ability to keep your hand and arm steady while moving your arm or while holding your arm and hand in one position.
  • The ability to quickly move your hand, your hand together with your arm, or your two hands to grasp, manipulate, or assemble objects.
  • The ability to coordinate two or more limbs (for example, two arms, two legs, or one leg and one arm) while sitting, standing, or lying down.
  • The ability to use your abdominal and lower back muscles to support part of the body repeatedly or continuously over time without 'giving out' or fatiguing.
  • The ability to bend, stretch, twist or reach with your body, arms, and/or legs.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office/Office 365 and Google systems
