Join our team! The City of Kentwood is seeking applicants for a Building Maintenance Technician I position in the Department of Public Works.
Pay and Benefits
The compensation range for this position is $21.11-26.97 with a consistent 40-hour (or more) work week. This equates to an annual wage of $43,909-$56,098, depending on qualifications and experience. The City offers a comprehensive benefits package, including a 9% employer retirement plan contribution, 11 paid holidays, three personal days, 12 sick days, and up to four weeks of vacation annually.
We are proud to be among the first municipal employers in West Michigan to offer a fully paid parental leave benefit. Employees receive four weeks of fully paid leave following birth, adoption, or placement for adoption. Birth mothers are eligible for an additional two weeks, totaling six weeks of fully paid leave.
Our medical insurance is competitive, with a 2% employee premium share ranging from $8.64-$20 biweekly. Benefits include free telehealth visits, no-cost dental and vision coverage, a health savings account with an employer contribution of $825-$1650 annually, flexible spending options, and a retirement health savings plan. We also provide employer-paid life insurance, long-term disability coverage at no cost, and access to an employee assistance program.
For this role, we offer annual allowances of $1,000 for tools and $200 for boots. Uniforms are provided and laundered by the City. We cover costs for job-related training, certifications, and licenses. Employees also enjoy discounts on city recreation programs and rentals.

The Department of Public Works maintains the City of Kentwood’s infrastructure with nearly 40 employees across five divisions: building maintenance, fleet services, grounds maintenance, streets maintenance, and utilities (water and wastewater). The department manages over 150 miles of underground pipes, 155 miles of streets, parks, grounds, buildings, and a fleet of vehicles, handling tasks from snow plowing to parks maintenance.

Position Summary
Reporting to the Building Maintenance Technician Supervisor, the main responsibilities include supporting installation, maintenance, and repair of mechanical, electrical, electronics, HVAC, security, and structural systems within City buildings and facilities in a multi-craft environment.
