Job summary

The Jewish Community Center of Greater Kansas City in Overland Park, KS, is seeking a Maintenance Technician to perform light plumbing, electrical, carpentry and general cleaning to maintain the campus.

Qualifications

  • Minimum three years of commercial building maintenance experience including plumbing, lighting, electrical, carpentry, drywall and cleaning.
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds and carry up to 90 feet; work schedule includes overtime and event-driven shifts.
  • Able to work with minimal supervision and read/ follow instructions.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain light plumbing, lighting and electrical systems.
  • Perform carpentry, drywall, painting and wallpaper tasks.
  • Install and maintain ceiling tiles and perform exterior/ interior upkeep.
  • Assist with room set-ups, clean-ups and kitchen equipment upkeep.
  • Support Building Engineer as needed and respond to maintenance needs.

Overview

The Jewish Community Campus, located in Overland Park, is a 290,000 square foot building on a 29‑acre campus. The building is home to nine Jewish agencies including the Jewish Community Center of Greater Kansas City. The building includes a preschool, K‑12 private school, 500‑seat theater, fitness center, indoor and outdoor pool, commercial kitchens, private offices and public meeting spaces. The Maintenance Technician performs light plumbing, electrical, carpentry, interior maintenance and exterior cleaning and maintenance.

  • Sunday‑Thursday
  • Tuesday‑Thursday: 1:30 pm to 10:00 pm
  • Sundays: typically 8‑4:30 but flexible and depends on event schedules

Essential Functions
  • Light plumbing maintenance including sinks, showers, toilets, urinals, etc.
  • Lighting and electrical maintenance including changing ballasts, bulbs, outlets.
  • Carpentry, drywall, mudding, painting and wallpapering.
  • Install and maintain drop ceiling tiles.
  • Outdoor grounds maintenance, as needed like trash pick up, salt application, snow removal and more.
  • Assist with room set–ups and tear–downs and general clean‑up.
  • Cleaning and maintenance of equipment in commercial kitchens.
  • Interior trash pick‑up and other cleaning as needed.
  • Ability to assist Building Engineer as needed.
  • Other duties assigned.
Requirements
  • A minimum of three years of experience in commercial building maintenance that includes proficiency in light plumbing, lighting, electrical, carpentry, drywall, painting and cleaning. Pool maintenance experience is a plus.
  • Able to work and meet deadlines with minimal supervision.
  • Able to lift 50 pounds and carry up to 90 feet.
  • Able to establish and maintain effective working relationships with colleagues and customers.
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills to read and follow written and verbal instructions.
  • Able to use common workplace technology such as email, internet, software, etc.
  • Able to work schedule and be flexible when changes and/or overtime are required.
Physical Requirements
  • Extensive walking, climbing of stairs and ladders, lifting/carrying a minimum of 50 pounds.
  • Good manual dexterity to utilize hand tools, diagnose and make repairs.
  • Good visual acuity to complete satisfactory finishes for things like paint and wallpaper or carpentry projects.
  • Works outdoors in various weather conditions that may include heat, snow and/or ice.
