Qualifications

Job Summary

This position is responsible for the skilled installation, maintenance, and repair of SDDC's comprehensive mechanical infrastructure. This role performs a broad range of hands‑on technical work to ensure that all building systems and equipment operate safely, reliably, and efficiently. The role ensures all campus equipment strictly complies with 42 CFR Part 483 Subpart I (Conditions of Participation for ICFs/IID) federal physical environment regulations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Performs skilled troubleshooting and repair tasks in the areas of plumbing and HVAC.
  • Execute scheduled preventative maintenance protocols for SDDC's plumbing and complex HVAC systems.
  • Locates problems, determines appropriate procedures, and makes repairs or adjustments on system to ensure the disabled unit/system returns to operation in a cost effective and timely manner.
Licenses And Certifications

Licensed HVAC or Plumber is preferred.

The Ideal Candidate Will Have
  • Technical Expertise: Comprehensive knowledge of troubleshooting and repairing complex mechanical systems, commercial appliances, and automated facility equipment.
  • Piping Proficiency: Proven experience installing, maintaining, and repairing heavy‑duty water supply, waste, and vent piping networks.
  • Proactive Maintenance Focus: Direct experience executing systematic preventative maintenance schedules for HVAC, plumbing, and mechanical infrastructure.
  • Diagnostic Skills: Proficiency in reading blueprints, interpreting technical schematics, and utilizing specialized diagnostic tools to isolate and predict equipment failures.
  • Operational Reliability: Ability to perform physical labor, utilize maintenance tracking software, and respond effectively to critical facility equipment emergencies in an Intermediate Care Facility (ICF) setting.
Knowledge Of
  • Mechanical Systems: In-depth knowledge of the operations, internal components, and mechanics of mechanical systems, automated equipment, and commercial appliances.
  • Piping & Hydraulic Principles: Advanced knowledge of standard plumbing codes, water distribution loops, and the proper layout, installation, and repair of water supply, waste, and vent piping networks.
  • Proactive Preventative Maintenance: Proven principles of predictive and preventative maintenance modeling.
  • Technical Blueprints & Schematics: High proficiency in reading and interpreting mechanical blueprints, complex plumbing schematics, building layouts.
  • Diagnostic & Calibration Tools: Expert knowledge of the safe operation of specialized hand tools, multi‑meters, pressure gauges, and building automation control interfaces.
Skill To
  • Isolate Mechanical Failures: Troubleshoot and diagnose complex mechanical failures, component wear, and structural defects in industrial facility equipment and commercial appliances.
  • Repair, rebuild, or replace internal components, gear assemblies, pumps, and heavy hardware to restore optimal equipment operations.
  • Perform systematically scheduled preventative maintenance, including lubricating motors, replacing worn belts, clearing lines, and servicing HVAC coils.
Ability To
  • Manage Proactive Schedules: Prioritize and execute comprehensive preventative maintenance plans across multiple building systems simultaneously without disrupting daily operations.
  • Diagnose Under Pressure: Analyze complex equipment malfunctions rapidly and implement safe, effective repairs during critical system failures or emergency outages.
  • Adapt to Physical Demands: Perform strenuous physical labor, including lifting up to 50 lbs, climbing ladders, and working in confined mechanical spaces safely.
  • Work around Vulnerable Populations: Demonstrate tact, respect, and awareness while performing maintenance duties within an active residential care environment.
  • Collaborate Across Teams: Work effectively alongside facility staff to ensure a safe physical environment.
