Guilford County Government is seeking a semi-skilled Building Maintainer to perform mechanical maintenance and repairs in the Building Services Department. The role supports journeyman plumbers, electricians, and HVAC mechanics, under supervision, with a focus on safety and quality workmanship.
Qualifications include a high school diploma or GED and at least one year of mechanical maintenance experience, plus ability to read simple sketches and use common hand tools.
Performs semi-skilled work in the mechanical maintenance and repair of buildings and equipment for the Building Services Department.

An employee in this class performs a variety of tasks ranging from routine maintenance activities to assignments requiring the application of knowledge acquired from on-the-job training. Work includes assisting journeyman level plumbers, electricians, and HVAC mechanics in their respective areas of responsibilities. Guidance and instruction in the principles and techniques involved are received from a journey tradesman. Work is performed under varying degrees of supervision, depending on abilities of the incumbent, and is evaluated through observation and inspection of completed work.
High school graduate or GED and one year experience in general mechanical maintenance and repair work.
Must be able to perform the basic life operational functions of climbing, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, grasping, feeling, talking and repetitive motions. Heavy work exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
Work is performed inside and out in varying conditions including loud noise. Hazards may include occasional exposure to health risk of infection when cleaning up body fluids.
Driving is an essential requirement of this position whether driving a County owned or personal vehicle to conduct county business. Motor Vehicle Reports may be verified for valid driver's license and that the driving record is compatible with the county's driving criteria. If a personal vehicle is operated for county business proper insurance is maintained as per Guilford County's vehicle use policy.
