Qualifications

  • Must be at least 18 years old with a GED or high school diploma (or currently in a technical degree program).
  • Ability to perform basic installations and repairs to plumbing, HVAC, electrical, custodial areas as needed.
  • Willingness to work outdoors/in elements and across varied shifts including nights/weekends.

Responsibilities

  • Repair and maintain plumbing, electrical and HVAC systems.
  • Calibrate instruments and tools for job responsibilities.
  • Maintain fire, carbon monoxide, smoke and other safety systems.
  • Evacuate building in emergencies and ensure safety procedures are followed.
  • Respond to tenant reports of mechanical or maintenance issues.
  • Coordinate with facilities management and outside experts as needed.

Duties can vary from day to day and a maintenance schedule may be implemented so time management skills are required. Building Maintenance Technicians need to have a good knowledge of building skills including HVAC, plumbing, drywall installation, painting, and general building repair. Also, the incumbent will need to be adept at using a variety of hand and electrical tools.
