Job summary

American Electric Power (AEP) is seeking a Building Maintenance Technician in the United States (Indiana region) to perform skilled maintenance on HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and mechanical building systems. The role includes preventive maintenance, repairs, and coordination with contractors.

The position requires a high school diploma or GED, 2–3 years of relevant experience, and a valid driver’s license. Overtime, travel, and occasional weekend/evening shifts may be required.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Minimum two (2) years of experience as a Building Maintenance Technician B or at least three (3) years equivalent experience in HVAC, electrical, plumbing or carpentry.
• Must possess and maintain a valid state driver's license.
• Overtime required. Overnight travel may be required. Weekend and evening shift work may be required.
• Electrician or HVAC license or CFC refrigerant certification preferred. Must be willing to pursue the certification.

Responsibilities

• Perform preventative/predictive maintenance on HVAC equipment, generators, and building systems.
• Troubleshoot, repair, install and operate building mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems.
• Monitor work and coordinate with contractors and maintenance staff.
• Ensure compliance with contract terms, safety, environmental, and conduct rules.
• Keep records and submit reports as required.

Job Description

What you’ll do: Perform preventative/predictive maintenance on, troubleshoot, repair, install and operate various types of HVAC-related equipment, emergency generators, and general building mechanical, electrical and plumbing equipment and systems in accordance with industry standards and mechanical, electrical, plumbing and building codes. Perform general building maintenance and repair related to drywall, masonry, painting, ceilings, roofing, tile, carpets, windows and other related items. Monitor the work of, communicate effectively with, and/or assist others, including contractors, engaged in maintenance, construction and operation activities. Ensure work is completed in compliance with contract terms and conditions and in accordance with company safety, security, environmental and conduct rules. Perform general housekeeping duties as required, such as, assemble, move, repair, hang and adjust furniture, wall hangings, doors, windows and other office items, assist in snow removal, storm damage cleanup, lawn maintenance, spill cleanup, inventory management. Procure necessary quality parts and material in the most economical and accepted manner. 6) Maintain records, including inspection documentation, and submit reports as required.

Other Requirements

Electrician or HVAC license or CFC refrigerant certification preferred. Must be willing to pursue the certification. PSO Building Maint Techs: City of Tulsa 1st Class Engineer licenses preferred. Must be willing to pursue the licenses. Overtime required. Overnight travel may be required. In addition, scheduled as well as unscheduled, weekend and evening shift work may be required. Will be expected to respond to emergency call out work. Requires working indoors and outdoors in all weather. Possess excellent verbal, written, organizational, problem solving and communication skills. Ability to read, interpret, review, revise, and correct blueprints, drawings, schematics, specifications and instructions related to the assigned work . Requires the ability to utilize a computer.

Compensation Data

Compensation Grade: U021-110 Compensation Range: $36.80 - $37.89 The Physical Demand Level for this job is: M – Medium Work: Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Physical demand requirements are in excess of those for Light Work.
