Building Leadership Member (BLT) – Roosevelt

Position Type: Teacher Leadership / Teacher Leadership Date Posted: 7/11/2026 Date Available: 2026-2027 School Year

Position Summary

Building Leadership Member will work collaboratively with building administration to create, implement, and evaluate the School Improvement Plan using the BLT Framework and relevant data, including the BLT survey, as a guide.

Compensation & Hours
  • Number of Positions: up to 8 per middle school (extra duty only)
  • Additional teacher leader service hours outside the contract day accompany this position.
  • Annual compensation: $500.
Qualifications
  • Reflective, growth‑oriented, seeks and acts upon feedback, and willing to be coached.
  • Deep knowledge of equity principles and culturally responsible pedagogy to identify and address inequitable practices.
  • Ability to train and coach in the New Art & Science of Teaching.
  • Willingness to become knowledgeable in the Building Leadership Team framework.
  • Experience with research‑based strategies within digital literacy.
  • Knowledge of curriculum, instruction, and assessment.
  • Preferred ability to design, present, and facilitate adult learning experiences.
  • Experience with conducting professional learning activities.
  • Knowledge of the Iowa Core Standards and Standards‑Based Grading.
  • Mentoring and coaching skills.
  • Knowledge of Professional Learning Community processes and protocols.
  • Standard teaching license with at least three years of teaching experience, including at least one year in the Cedar Rapids Community School District (extra duty positions).
Measures of Effectiveness & Professional Growth
  • Annual evaluation to provide opportunities for reflection and administrative feedback.
  • Use of CRCSD evaluation procedures and the TLS rubric to monitor development.
  • Personal reflection on professional growth related to essential job elements.
  • Meet or exceed all performance targets.

  • Facilitate PLCs addressing curriculum, assessment, instruction, and student achievement.
  • Provide job‑embedded professional development aligned with teacher instructional growth goals.

  • Regularly analyze and interpret data to monitor progress toward school achievement goals.
Physical Demands

The job requires frequent standing; walking; use of hands and fingers; talking and hearing; squatting, stooping, or kneeling; reaching; bending or twisting; and lifting up to 50 pounds in and out of areas 0–12 feet away, occasionally up to 20 feet. Vision requirements include close vision, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus while supervising students and using computers.

Work Environment

The environment is typically quiet but may include extended professional hours beyond an 8:00 a.m.–4:00 p.m. schedule, indoor and outdoor classrooms, and movement while supervising activities. Reasonable accommodations may be provided for disabilities.
