Job summary

City and County of Honolulu is seeking a Building Inspector Aid to assist experienced inspectors in reviewing buildings for compliance with Building, Housing, and Zoning Codes. You will inspect construction work against approved plans, investigate basic complaints, and support the team across the community.

Travel to inspection sites is required. This entry-level role emphasizes learning City codes, with responsibilities including drafting inspection reports and assisting with investigations.

Qualifications

  • Equivalent to graduation from high school; substitution allowed with an Associate degree in architectural or engineering drafting or a Bachelor’s degree in Architecture or Engineering.
  • Education verification is required and transcripts/foreign credential evaluation may be requested.

Responsibilities

  • Assist higher-level inspectors in investigating and inspecting buildings and structures for hazards and compliance with the Building Code.
  • Compute and approve room capacities for assembly areas based on occupancy requirements.
  • Inspect care facilities, schools, and other buildings for code compliance.
  • Draft inspection reports and letters using computer systems.
  • Perform other related duties as needed.
