Job summary

The City of Tomball is seeking a Building Inspector to ensure residential, commercial, and multi-family constructions meet city ordinances and adopted building codes. You will perform inspections, enforce ICC and IRC regulations, and communicate with contractors, citizens, and business owners to provide guidance on building codes.

Ideal candidates have at least 2 years of relevant experience, HS diploma, and the ability to interpret construction plans.

The City of Tomball is accepting applications for a Building Inspector. This position ensures that all residential, commercial, and multi-family constructions adhere to city ordinances and adopted building codes. This includes performing regular inspections. In addition to enforcing codes, the Building Inspector actively communicates with contractors, citizens, and business owners, offering guidance and addressing any queries related to building codes and regulations.Reports To Building OfficialFLSA Non-ExemptPositions Supervised Code CompliancePay Grade T-135Building Inspector functions include but are not limited to the following.Inspections and Enforcement: Enforces city ordinances, focusing particularly on building codes. Performs inspections on new constructions to ensure compliance with ICC and IRC regulations.Responds to community complaints, investigate, and take appropriate action.Community Interaction: Assist contractors, citizens, and developers with pre-construction planning and other building-related questions. Address incoming calls, emails, and voicemails, even those outside the immediate job scope.Contribute to the team effort by performing other related duties as assigned.Success Framework.
