Job description

The City of Albert Lea is accepting applications for a Building Inspector. This position will perform skilled commercial and residential inspection and plan review work enforcing building, mechanical, and plumbing codes. Responsibilities also include inspecting and enforcing zoning codes, fire codes, fire safety regulations, shoreline management ordinances, and land-use regulations.

Qualifications include:

1. Three years of work experience in a building construction trade or as an inspector enforcing the building code, or a two-year Building Inspection Technology degree (or equivalent training and experience in building technology).
2. One year of experience in residential building inspection can substitute for two years of construction experience.
3. Must become certified as a Building Official within 18 months of hire and maintain certification thereafter.
4. Must possess and maintain a valid MN driver’s license.
