Position Summary
The Building & Grounds Laborer performs manual labor and maintenance duties supporting the upkeep of Clarksdale Public Utilities facilities, buildings, and surrounding grounds. The position assists in maintaining safe, clean, and functional work environments across utility properties.
Work is performed under direct supervision and involves outdoor and facility maintenance activities.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Grounds Maintenance
- Maintains utility grounds, including mowing, trimming, and general landscaping
- Removes debris and maintains the cleanliness of facilities and work areas
- Assists with seasonal maintenance activities
Building Maintenance Support
- Assists with minor building repairs and maintenance tasks
- Performs cleaning and upkeep of utility buildings and facilities
- Assists with moving equipment, materials, and supplies
Operational Support
- Loads, unloads, and transports tools and materials
- Assists maintenance personnel with assigned projects
- Maintains tools and equipment in safe working conditions
Safety Responsibilities
- Utilizers required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)Reports on unsafe conditions or facility concerns
General Duties
- Performs other related duties as assigned by the Corporate Services Supervisor

None.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Knowledge of basic grounds and facility maintenance practices
- Ability to perform manual labor safely
- Ability to follow instructions and work cooperatively with others
- Ability to work outdoors in varied weather conditions
Education and Experience
Education:
High School Diploma or GED preferred.
Experience:
One (1) year of experience as a laborer or maintenance assistant preferred.
Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered.
Licenses and Certifications
Valid Mississippi Driver’s License required.
Working Conditions
Work is performed both outdoors and around utility facilities and may involve exposure to weather conditions, noise, dust, and maintenance environments.
Physical Requirements
Ability to:
- Lift up to 75 pounds
- Walk, climb, kneel, stretch, reach, and perform physical labor
- Operate hand tools and maintenance equipment
