Job summary

Capitol Aggregates, Inc. is seeking a dedicated Utility Laborer to maintain plant grounds and support facility upkeep in a safe, well‑organized work environment.

This role covers groundskeeping, janitorial tasks, and light equipment operation to assist daily plant operations. You will work outdoors in varying weather, operate mowers and light machinery, perform routine maintenance, and support office projects as needed, with emphasis on reliability and safety.

Qualifications

• Minimum of two (2) years of experience using lawn or groundskeeping equipment required.
• High school diploma or GED preferred.

Responsibilities

• Maintain plant grounds with mowers, trimmers, and landscaping equipment.
• Control weed and grass growth using approved methods.
• Pick up trash and debris and keep grounds and work areas clean and orderly.
• Perform janitorial and housekeeping tasks in office and plant areas as needed.
• Use hand tools such as shovels, brooms, and chipping guns to clean plant areas and equipment.
• Operate skid steers and front-end loaders to move materials within the plant when required.
• Assist office personnel with filing, shredding, and mass mailings as needed.
• Clean and maintain office areas in the absence of janitorial staff.
• Support additional maintenance, housekeeping, and utility tasks as assigned.

Position Overview

The Utility Laborer is responsible for maintaining plant grounds and supporting general facility upkeep to ensure a clean, safe, and well-maintained work environment. This role performs groundskeeping, janitorial support, and light equipment operation while assisting plant and office personnel with assigned tasks. The Utility Laborer supports daily plant operations through housekeeping, material handling, and routine maintenance activities.

What You’ll Do

• Maintain plant grounds using mowers, trimmers, and related landscaping equipment.
• Control weed and grass growth using approved methods, including weed killers and sprays.
• Pick up trash and debris and keep grounds and work areas clean and orderly.
• Perform janitorial and housekeeping tasks in office and plant areas as needed.
• Use hand tools such as shovels, brooms, and chipping guns to clean plant areas and equipment.
• Operate skid steers and front-end loaders to move materials within the plant when required.
• Assist office personnel with special projects such as filing, shredding, and mass mailings as needed.
• Clean and maintain office areas in the absence of janitorial staff.
• Support additional maintenance, housekeeping, and utility tasks as assigned.

Required Skills and Abilities

• Mechanical aptitude with the ability to operate lawn and light equipment safely.
• Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
• Strong attention to detail with a commitment to completing assigned tasks.
• Ability to work independently while managing daily responsibilities.
• Good analytical and troubleshooting skills related to equipment and maintenance tasks.
• Strong safety awareness and commitment to maintaining a safe work environment.

Education & Experience

• Minimum of two (2) years of experience using lawn or groundskeeping equipment required.
• High school diploma or GED preferred.
