Building Engineer

Job Description Summary

Responsible for ensuring the efficient operation and maintenance of mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems for assigned properties. Responsibilities include maintaining a clean and safe environment, performing rounds, routine assessments, preventive and corrective maintenance, painting, and housekeeping.

Job Responsibilities

1. Perform plumbing, electrical, and HVAC requirements for the building(s).
2. Maintain heating equipment, chillers, DX units, pumps, cooling towers, fan coil units, VAV, and air distribution systems.
3. Monitor and adjust mechanical and pneumatic equipment, control gauges, valves, thermostats, and diffusers.
4. Verify field conditions and perform repairs or adjustments as needed.
5. Monitor energy management systems.
6. Perform general repairs such as doors, ceilings, handrails, floors, and fixtures.
7. Maintain plumbing fixtures including water closets, urinals, and lavatories.
8. Conduct preventive maintenance following industry standards and manufacturer recommendations.
9. Inspect and maintain engine room and building equipment, including backup generators and fire pumps.
10. Ensure safety compliance, including fire and life safety inspections.
11. Document activities and respond to emergencies promptly.
12. Comply with all codes, regulations, and safety protocols.
13. Complete required safety training and maintain professional appearance and conduct.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED; trade school or apprenticeship preferred.
• 5+ years of related experience in building systems maintenance.
• Relevant licenses or permits, such as Journeyman or Master Electrician, Refrigeration Certificate, etc.
• Valid driver’s license and good driving record.
• Basic computer skills (Outlook, Excel, Word).
• Experience with HVAC, boilers, pumps, refrigerant systems, and energy management systems.

Work Environment & Physical Demands

This role involves working in a professional office environment, traveling between properties, and performing physical tasks such as lifting up to 50 lbs, crouching, reaching, and moving between locations.
