Job summary

Qualifications

  • Experience maintaining multiple facilities is strongly preferred; banking/healthcare/office environments a plus.
  • Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record; ability to travel between locations.

Responsibilities

  • Perform routine inspections of bank buildings, grounds, and mechanical systems.
  • Conduct preventive maintenance on HVAC, plumbing, lighting, electrical, doors, locks, ceilings, flooring, and other systems.
  • Troubleshoot and repair minor electrical, plumbing, carpentry, drywall, painting, and mechanical issues.
  • Monitor building automation systems and ensure proper operation of facility equipment.
  • Respond to maintenance requests and prioritize repairs based on safety and business needs.
  • Coordinate service calls and oversee outside contractors; ensure compliance with security procedures.

Job description

The Building Engineer is responsible for assisting the Assistant Chief Engineer with the operation, maintenance, repair, and overall condition of the NDBT’s facilities, equipment, and building systems across multiple locations in the Dallas community. This position helps ensure that all facilities remain safe, secure, functional, and well-maintained while minimizing disruptions to employees and customers. The Building Engineer performs preventive maintenance, coordinates repairs with outside vendors, responds to facility emergencies, and supports special projects, renovations, and bank events. This position requires a self-motivated individual who can work independently, prioritize multiple assignments, and provide exceptional internal customer service while maintaining the professional appearance and operational readiness of all bank facilities.

Facility Maintenance
  • Perform routine inspections of all bank buildings, grounds, and mechanical systems.
  • Conduct preventive maintenance on HVAC, plumbing, lighting, electrical, doors, locks, ceilings, flooring, and other building systems.
  • Troubleshoot and repair minor electrical, plumbing, carpentry, drywall, painting, and mechanical issues.
  • Replace lighting, ceiling tiles, air filters, hardware, and other building components as needed.
  • Monitor building automation systems and ensure proper operation of facility equipment.
Building Operations
  • Respond promptly to maintenance requests from employees and management.
  • Prioritize repairs based on operational impact, safety concerns, and business needs.
  • Maintain a safe, clean, and professional appearance at all bank facilities.
  • Assist with office moves, furniture installation, equipment relocation, and workstation setup.
  • Support after-hours emergency response for facility-related issues when necessary.
  • Coordinate service calls and oversee outside contractors performing maintenance or repairs.
  • Ensure vendors comply with bank security procedures and safety requirements.
  • Review completed work for quality and accuracy.
  • Assist with obtaining repair estimates and maintaining vendor relationships.
Preventive Maintenance
  • Develop and maintain preventive maintenance schedules.
  • Maintain maintenance logs and records of completed work.
  • Monitor equipment performance and recommend repairs or replacement before failures occur.
  • Assist with budgeting by identifying long‑term facility maintenance needs.
Safety and Compliance
  • Conduct routine safety inspections of facilities.
  • Identify and correct potential hazards.
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA standards and applicable building codes.
  • Support emergency preparedness efforts and facility security initiatives.
  • Maintain familiarity with bank security procedures while working in occupied facilities.
General Support
  • Assist with facility improvements, remodeling projects, and branch openings or relocations.
  • Maintain inventory of maintenance supplies and equipment.
  • Operate maintenance vehicles and equipment safely.
  • Perform other facility‑related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Technical, vocational, or trade school training in building maintenance, HVAC, electrical, plumbing, or a related field preferred.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of commercial building maintenance or building engineering experience preferred.
  • Experience maintaining multiple facilities is strongly preferred.
  • Experience working in financial institutions, healthcare, office buildings, or similar professional environments is a plus.
  • Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.
  • Ability to safely operate a motor vehicle while traveling between bank locations.
  • Ability to respond to after‑hours facility emergencies on an occasional basis.
Preferred Skills and Attributes:

Physical Requirements:
  • Frequently walk throughout multiple bank facilities.
  • Regularly stand for extended periods.
  • Frequently bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, and climb ladders.
  • Frequently lift and carry equipment and materials weighing up to 50 pounds independently.
  • Occasionally lift or move objects weighing up to 75 pounds with assistance or appropriate equipment.
  • Use hand and power tools requiring manual dexterity.
  • Work in mechanical rooms, rooftops, crawl spaces, and confined areas as needed.
  • Occasionally work outdoors in varying weather conditions, including heat, cold, rain, and humidity.
  • Ability to distinguish colors for electrical wiring and equipment indicators.
  • Ability to safely operate a motor vehicle while traveling between bank locations.
  • Ability to respond to after‑hours facility emergencies on an occasional basis.
  • Exposure to dust, noise, cleaning chemicals, electrical equipment, mechanical equipment, and varying temperatures.
  • May occasionally work from ladders or elevated surfaces while following all safety procedures.
  • Noise level: generally low to moderate. Occasionally higher noise during facility maintenance.
  • Telephone: regular use.
  • Regular exposure to outdoor weather conditions.
  • Travel between locations and administrative offices throughout the Dallas area.
  • Work may occasionally occur before or after normal business hours to minimize disruption to bank operations.
