Village of South Holland invites applications for a Building Division Manager to lead the permitting and inspection functions and to oversee plans reviews, flood prevention, and code enforcement in the Community Development Department.

DEPARTMENT: Community Development, Reports to Director
The Village of South Holland, a vibrant suburb 25 miles south of downtown Chicago with a population of approximately 22,000, seeks a Building Division Manager to join our Community Development Department.
Under the general direction of the Director of Community Development, the Building Division Manager is responsible for the building permit and inspection process within the Village. This includes ensuring all structures within the Village are built or modified in compliance with Village codes and ordinances, overseeing the related permit inspection process and performing plans reviews, and managing flood plain management and flood prevention processes in coordination with the Village Engineer.
Education & Experience
Residency within the Village of South Holland is not required. This position requires residency within a 20‑mile radius of the Village Hall, or within any community that is touched by the 20‑mile radius, starting no later than 12 months after the start date.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
The candidate must be able to read and interpret complex building plans, specifications, and building codes, with knowledge of construction plans, site plans, and landscaping plans, including the understanding and general application of engineer and architect scales. The successful candidate will establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff and other stakeholders, analyze problems, identify alternative solutions, evaluate the consequences of proposed actions, and implement recommendations that support organizational goals. The candidate must also understand construction methods and be able to perform building permit inspections. They shall demonstrate the ability to understand neighborhood and community needs and respond through appropriate measures, including recommendations for programs, codes, and ordinance changes. Proficiency in modern office technology is required, including email, permitting and licensing software, and the Microsoft Office Suite. The candidate must possess, or be able to obtain, a valid driver's license with a safe driving record and exhibit excellent organizational and project management skills. Strong oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills are essential for effectively working with individuals and groups at all levels. The ideal candidate will be innovative, creative, resourceful, and capable of working independently.
$79,144 to $119,329 commensurate with experience. Anticipated hiring range is $85,000‑$105,000. A comprehensive benefits package is also included. The Village offers participation in the Illinois Municipal Retirement Fund system.
