Job summary

Warren County (NC) seeks a qualified building code inspector to perform field inspections of building, electrical, mechanical and plumbing systems for compliance with state and local codes.

The role requires reading plans, advising on corrective actions, and enforcing codes while maintaining inspection records and assisting contractors and the public. Training in multiple inspection fields may be provided.

Qualifications

• Associates/Technical degree or equivalent experience in building trades.
• Thorough knowledge of building, electrical, mechanical and plumbing codes.
• Ability to read plans and blueprints accurately.
• Ability to communicate with owners, contractors and the public and enforce codes tactfully.

Responsibilities

• Perform field inspections of building, electrical, mechanical and plumbing systems for code compliance.
• Review plans and permit applications and advise on corrective actions.
• Inspect existing structures for hazards and provide guidance to contractors.
• Issue warnings and stop-work orders for non-compliant projects.
• Maintain inspection records and answer questions from the public and contractors.
• Cross-train in other inspection fields and perform related duties as needed.
