Job summary

The City of Richmond, Department of Planning & Development Review is seeking a Code Enforcement Inspector – Building to enforce Virginia Building Codes and inspect residential and commercial structures. You will work independently on inspections, prepare clear reports, and coordinate with contractors and clients to ensure compliance.

Ideal candidates have a High School diploma, relevant code inspection certifications, and strong knowledge of code requirements.

Qualifications

• Requires knowledge of Virginia Building and Trade Codes.
• Ability to perform inspections on residential and commercial buildings.
• Excellent report writing and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Performs routine inspections of new construction, alteration, and repairs of buildings and other structures.
• Inspects commercial, residential, and industrial buildings to determine whether materials used meet code compliance.
• Prepare daily reports of inspections, log inspections, and notify contractors of code violations.
• Assist contractors and customers with building code questions and city processes for permitting, plan review, and inspections.
