The City of Richmond, Department of Planning & Development Review is seeking a Code Enforcement Inspector – Building to enforce Virginia Building Codes and inspect residential and commercial structures. You will work independently on inspections, prepare clear reports, and coordinate with contractors and clients to ensure compliance.
Ideal candidates have a High School diploma, relevant code inspection certifications, and strong knowledge of code requirements.

The City of Richmond, Department of Planning & Development Review is currently seeking a Code Enforcement Inspector –Building, who must be able to demonstrate knowledge and experience with Virginia Building and Trade Codes. Additionally, the ideal candidate must be able to work independently in conducting a range of trade specific inspections on residential and commercial buildings as well as managing specific projects related to these types of code inspections.
Class description is intended to represent only the key areas of responsibilities; specific position assignments will vary depending on the business needs of the department. The employee may perform other duties of a similar nature or level subject to the needs of the department.
This position is considered an Essential Personnel, which means that the incumbent is required to work when the City is closed due to public emergencies, critical or hazardous conditions or inclement weather.
This individual may be required to work nights, weekends, holidays or on-call, as needed.
