Job summary

The City of Santa Fe seeks a code enforcement inspector to enforce building, plumbing, electrical, mechanical, gas, energy, and fire codes through field inspections of buildings and construction to ensure code compliance.

Responsibilities include reviewing plans, advising on permits, responding to complaints, and coordinating with the Building Standards Commission and health district. A high school diploma, TX licenses/certifications, and multiple state licenses are required.

Qualifications

• High school graduate or equivalent; Texas Driver’s License and good driving record; state certification as code enforcement officer or ability to obtain within one year of employment; Certified Floodplain Manager, or ability to obtain within one year of employment; and must be a licensed plumbing inspector by the State of Texas and hold at least two or more state licenses in mechanical, electrical, building, gas, or energy codes.
• Three years’ experience as a combination inspector; extensive knowledge of the International Building Codes; ability to read and interpret building plans and drawings; knowledge of legal procedures involving enforcement of codes and ordinances.

Responsibilities

• Enforce building, plumbing, electrical, mechanical, gas, energy, and fire codes; conduct field inspections for code compliance.
• Assist with zoning regulations verification and development proposals; maintain zoning map.
• Serve as Floodplain Administrator for the City of Santa Fe when authorized by City Manager.
• Review plans, interpret codes, advise citizens and builders, and issue permits.
• Respond to citizen complaints; investigate violations; initiate court actions as needed; attend related hearings.
• Collaborate with Building Standards Commission and Galveston County Health District; coordinate with stakeholders.
• Prepare correspondence, reports, budget inputs; present at public meetings as required.
