ERG Building Automation Systems (BAS) Controls Technician Job Description

ERG is a research and consulting firm providing support to federal, state, and commercial clients. We are looking for a mid- to senior-level Building Automation Systems (BAS) Controls Technician to support facilities projects for a Department of Defense (DoD) client. The role involves HVAC and BAS control systems installation, programming, troubleshooting, and maintenance at a federal site in Indian Head, Maryland. The ideal candidate can scope, estimate, and plan minor repair projects.

Responsibilities:

1. Support the full lifecycle of small-scale projects from design to completion.
2. Act as the on-site project leader for HVAC controls and BAS projects.
3. Perform routine maintenance on BAS systems and equipment.
4. Test and modify system software.
5. Manage system controller loading, device verification, and commissioning.
6. Provide accurate documentation of projects and commissioning.
7. Troubleshoot and repair facilities and equipment issues.
8. Respond to emergency maintenance requests.
9. Update, verify, and calibrate BAS system software.
10. Conduct site visits and document conditions.
11. Prepare technical reports and maintain records.

Qualifications and Skills:

1. Hands-on experience with system commissioning and programming of DDC and HVAC control systems.
2. Knowledge of electronic/digital controls, HVAC systems, and facilities management.
3. Understanding of control theory and HVAC equipment.
4. Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Windows.
5. Minimum 5 years of experience without certification or 2 years with certification.
6. High school diploma; associate degree in related field preferred.
7. Knowledge of building codes, OSHA, and NFPA standards is a plus.
8. Strong troubleshooting, communication, and teamwork skills.
9. Ability to obtain a DoD Secret security clearance and U.S. citizenship.
10. Pre-employment physical and ability to lift up to 100 pounds required.
11. Ability to work in potentially hazardous environments and perform physical tasks.
