Job summary

Siemens is offering a Building Automation Design Engineer Internship in the Chicago area for Summer 2027. The program runs 10 weeks with full-time hours, and interns will rotate through departments focused on smart buildings and sustainable infrastructure.

You will work on design documents, network architecture, and engineering tasks under supervision of the Design Engineering Team Lead, gaining hands-on experience in building automation systems. This is an on-site role with pay details provided.

Qualifications

Currently enrolled undergraduate pursuing an engineering degree (4-year U.S. college).
Able to work 40 hours/week for 10 weeks (May–July or Jun–Aug).
On-site presence up to 3 days/week and located within 50 miles of Rolling Meadows, IL.

Responsibilities

Understand project requirements and design build solutions for facilities (higher ed, data centers, hospitals, labs).
Prepare design documents: layouts, drawings, BOMs, sequences, schedules, panel layouts per Siemens standards.
Design building network architecture to support operator workstations.
Analyze plans, specs, and codes to determine requirements and risks.
Assist with re-estimates and coordinate with sales/management to align on scope.
