The Claremont Colleges Services is seeking a full-time Building Attendant I to oversee housekeeping operations in a Science Education Center. This role involves cleaning classrooms, labs, and public spaces while ensuring safety and cleanliness of the environment.
The ideal candidate must possess knowledge of cleaning chemicals and safe operations, with at least two years of custodial experience. Scheduled hours are Monday to Friday, 2:30 p.m. to 11:00 p.m., with a pay range of $19.50 to $20.50 per hour.
Under general supervision, the Building Attendant I performs intermediate‑level duties related to the housekeeping operations in a Science Education Center. Performs routine and non‑routine duties, participates in set‑up and breakdown for special events, and moves furniture. Performs a variety of cleaning tasks requiring physical fitness, safe working practices around lab related chemicals and materials, knowledge of cleaning chemicals, methods, procedures, and supplies and equipment. Maintains facilities in clean, orderly, and safe condition.
Required knowledge, skills, and abilities: knowledge of maintenance, use, safe operation, and repair of cleaning supplies, tools and equipment; knowledge of cleaning chemicals; knowledge of safe working methods and procedures; ability to follow safe housekeeping instructions specific to a science building operation; ability to learn proper use of fire extinguishers; ability to stand, walk, bend, climb, push, pull, stoop, twist, stretch, lift up to 50 pounds, with team lift or material handling equipment; climb ladders up 10 feet with assistance and up to eight feet unassisted and be able to work on feet for prolonged periods; ability to clean and maintain an assigned area within a predetermined time schedule; English language oral and written comprehension; establish and maintain cooperative working relationships; work well without continuous supervision; wear uniforms and safety equipment as required; satisfactorily complete a post‑offer functional capacity test.
Education & experience: any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school or any combination of education, training or experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and ability to perform the job; minimum two years of previous experience in custodial or building maintenance assignments.
Licenses / certificates: may require a valid U.S. driver’s license and maintain a driving record acceptable to the Colleges’ insurance carrier.
Hours & classification and status: this is a regular status, full‑time, benefits‑eligible, non‑exempt position. Scheduled hours Monday‑Friday 2:30 p.m.–11:00 p.m.; hours may vary due to the needs of the College or department. Must be available to work rotational weekends and special weekend events as required. Hourly rate range: $19.50–$20.50.
Supervisory responsibility: none.

Physical and mental requirements: maintain good concentration while dealing with interruptions; attention to details; ability to sit in a normal seated position for extended periods; reach and extend hands or arms in any direction; finger dexterity for manipulating objects with fingers; communication skills using spoken word; eyesight and hearing within normal parameters; ability to bend and stoop; move about; lift and carry short distances up to 50 pounds.
