Job description

JOB SUMMARY

Under administrative direction of a Muckleshoot Tribal School Principal, this position provides educational and student development leadership for the Tribal School; plans, organizes and evaluates programs and services and promotes communication with students, parents, staff and the community for educational effectiveness.

MAJOR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Provides educational and student development leadership; implements school curriculum and procedures; supervises co-curricular and extra-curricular programs and manages their continuing review, evaluation and improvement.
  • Coordinate the instructional affairs within assigned departments, and externally, where pertinent.
  • Evaluates student development results against school objectives, statutory requirements and best professional practices.
  • Provides counseling and guidance to students; encourages, motivates, coaches, corrects and disciplines students; communicates and confers with parents to promote student learning, success and appropriate behavior. Communicates with outside agencies concerning children, as necessary.
  • Administers student records; ensures evaluation of each student’s educational growth and development; provides periodic reports to parents and other administrators.
  • Develop and administer the annual master schedule, working in conjunction with the principal and school leaders.
  • Provide leadership in screening and interviewing applicants including substitutes, and/or recommending of applicants to be interviewed.
  • Assist the Principal with the development of the annual budget.
  • Serve on various committees to represent the school at the direction of the Principal.
  • Administers the school discipline policies and procedures and provides guidance on the management of students in classrooms, lunchrooms, hallways and on school grounds; holds students accountable for conduct. Administers student attendance policies.
  • Assesses student emergency health and safety needs and ensures appropriate action.
  • Supervises and evaluates personnel; serves as mentor to staff; observes and provides feedback regarding performance; trains and motivates staff; works with staff to resolve problems; recommends the appointment, assignment, promotion, probation or dismissal of certificated and classified staff.
  • Manages the maintenance and use of the physical plant; supervises the operation of care of the school buildings, grounds and other school property; monitors safety; reports unsafe conditions for repair; responds to emergency situations.
  • Remains accessible during school hours to take action on any situation that may arise.
  • Establishes and maintains effective communications with the community, parents, students and the public regarding school programs and services; communicates concerns to the Tribal School Director as appropriate; leads and secures parental and public involvement and support.
  • Ensures the maintenance of a wide variety of records; prepares and presents a variety of reports as required.
  • Because of the Tribe’s commitment to community service and the well-being of its members, each employee may be expected to perform a wide range of office and field duties from time to time. Such duties may or may not be related to their regular responsibilities.
  • EDUCATION - EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING FOR POSITION

    Required: Graduation from an accredited four year college or university with a major in Education and a Master’s degree in educational administration, supervision, or appropriate related field; Washington State Teaching certificate; three (3) years of related experience as a classroom teacher; and Washington State Administrators certificate.

The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.

    Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderately quiet.

    Licenses or Certifications Required
    Washington State Teaching certificate. Washington State Administrators certificate. A current and valid Washington State driver’s license may be required at time of appointment or at a time set by the Tribe.
